A few words about Sotiros..

In the northern area of Thassos hooked on the mountain slopes among the pines and the trees we see the amphitheatrically built beautiful village of Sotiros.

The village was inhabited by the workers of the mines in the region around 1910.

The arcades and the galleries of the mines as well as the remnants of the offices that housed their administration services attract interest to this date.

Sotiros experienced an increase in tourists around 1940, as evidenced by the older men in the village, due to its excellent climate that made it preferred holiday destination.

Gradually, the village was abandoned but in recent years it shows a fairly good reconstruction in old and new houses.

The church of “Metamorphosis Sotiros” is remarkable, featuring a handmade wood-carved temple made by monks of Mount Athos (Agio Oros in Greek) in the early 20th century.

Unaltered remains the marble fountain at the “Spring of Platana”, beneath the towering plane trees, which was marked by the 4th committee of Modern Monuments of the Ministry of Culture as a preserved monument.

There, surrounded by nature, in the shadow of centuries old plane trees, the hum of running water you will surely enjoy your coffee.

You should definitely pay this village a visit, where life flows silently next to the crowed resorts. It will reimburse you in the best possible way for your choice.
